Trying to burn a cd from my songs on windows media player. It keeps saying to put in a blank disk. I have tried several disks (all new) Then it said windows media player cannot copy files to the recordable disk. I tried slowing the copy speed. This computer has 3 places 2 put disks in. 1 says disc, 2 says disc 40x max, 3 says dvd rom. which one do i use? The CD-R disks say 52x 700MB could that be the prob?

Most CD/DVD burners will say that they are such in front of the bezel.
If not, if you are using a Windows XP computer, go into the My Computer icon in your desktop. Look at the CD-ROM drive there and it should tell you if you have a burner or not.

Go into your system and then look at what you have. It will tell you everything in the computer, both hardware and software. As for the DVD not burning CDs that is no longer correct. I have a Dual Layer DVD drive that burns all of my DVDs and CDs. The CD drive is just a read only drive.
To find this go to Accessories in the start menu, system tools, and then system information. This will give you everything including the versions of software that you have.

A CD Burner will have either of the two following written on it:
52x24x52 (or similar)
CD/RW (or similar)
In the first example these are the write, rewrite, and read speeds. In the second example, the letters indicate CD ReWritable.
If you have Windows XP open up my computer, in there beside the drives it will identify the type. A CD burner is shown as CD-RW, a DVD burner is shown as DVD-RW.

If you select "My Computer" from the Start menu, it should display all your disk drives. The icon for your CD drive should say CD-RW drive if it is a CD-burner. Note that some CD burners will ONLY accept CD-R media of a certain writable speed. If you have an older PC, 8x and below should work.

Go to start > control panel > system > second tab > device manager > there will be located all the hardware on your computer. It will say there what type of cd-rom cd-writer or dvd-rom or whatever you have.

I know for sure that you don't use the DVD ROM to burn things. I had the same problem, Are you a Computer Administrator? If not, I know it won't let you burn them. Because you only have Limited Privledges. If not, You will have to go to Add or Remove Programs and Hardware.
