At this age, your son acts perfectly normal. I've had three of my own. They all come with different personalities. My first would not have opened her mouth if the nicest person stood in front of her. My youngest can't stop talking. He walks up to all and introduces himself. Either way, don't force the subject. As long as you teach and be an example for him, he'll get it. It could be that he's shy or just taking things in by observation. Forcing him to greet others won't work. Kindly encourage him, but leave it at that. I was really quiet and shy and hated it when I was being pushed into greeting others. I think the current society we're in expects way too much from our little ones. They need to focus on playing and learning to become functional and caring adults. That's their job, nothing else. Go with your feelings on this and not what others tell you, that includes me. The more people you ask, the greater different answers will be.
The best.

I disagree with that teacher. In this day and age, the less outgoing a child is with strangers, the better off he will be. Of course, if he knows those other teachers, he could give a little wave, but I certainly wouldn't worry about a 4 y/o waving or not waving hi to random adults. I'd be sure he shares toys, listens when the teacher talks, can follow three different directions given at once, is able to tie his shoes, etc.

Show him HOW to open up with his teachers. Greet the teachers, shake their hands, and have a little conversation. Show him that the teachers are nice by their being nice to you. Show him that he can trust his teachers; he may open up better if he trusts them. It may take a little while to get comfortable with the class or the teachers or with the routines, etc..

Whatever! I am sure at sometime in the day your son speaks to his teacher. I think it is safe to say he is not a morning person. don't let people make something out of nothing when it comes to your child.

He will open up to other other people when he is ready. My only suggestion is to make sure he is around enough people so he feels comfortable. He's still a baby in my eyes, and will open up when is is ready.
