I have the same hair! It's always the first thing that gets compliments! Think about it: how many people would like to have your hair!? I used to despair to tame it but now, older and wiser, I just go with it... The hair dresser will advise you on this, but my advice is to keep it natural, you're so lucky!

I had exactly the same problem as you when I lived in London where the water is hard - it was an absolute nightmare sorting my hair out.
I moved to Sheffield where the water is soft and it's absolutely beautiful and I can just wash it and leave it to dry and it looks great. If you live in a hard water area expensive as it might be I'd recommend washing it in mineral water as it works miracles not using hard water.
Otherwise I found letting my hair grow long so the waves could flow was good, also putting shorter layers in the front s and on the top all the way round so your hair will be more curl than wave helps. And get serum. Personally I think Frizz Ease is rubbish and the cheapo superdrug stuff is great.

I've ditched the straighteners and the anti-frizz creams. I just have a few layers cut in now and the whole damned world is jealous of my naturally buoyant do!
Don't chain yourself to heated irons, tongs and all that. Ask them to cut something that goes with your hair's flow.
Re thermal straightening. It doesn't leave your hair poker straight. It leaves you looking quite greasy and bedraggled. You still have to straighten you hair everyday to give it a 'straight hair look'.

ask for it to be thinned out.
a deep conditioning treatment could help you loads.
ask your stylist for tips.
any good hairdresser will suggest products that will help you style your hair.
maybe you could go alot shorter than what you are used to.
also if you do straightnen your hair lots always use a heat defence spray or you will make your hair worse to work with!

a short bob and some good straightners. you will find that you wont need to do it every day but because you will have some of the weight out of your hair it will make it more manageable. or if you want to keep the legth have it razored to thin it out a little

While it is pretty expensive... you might want to consider thermal reconstruction. It is a permanent solution -- you will have straight hair for at least 6 months.
