do u need to buy a special cox cable for a hd signal or anything?

It depends. You need a TV that's either HD ready or HD capable. And HD capable TV will have either component inputs (The Red, Green, and Blue wires + 2 audio), DVI inputs, or HDMI inputs.

An HD-ready TV will have those, plus a built in HD tuner so you can plug a coax directly into the TV. However, this is pretty useless if you have digital cable because most of the features like programming guide, channels over 100, and ondemand are built into the cable box.

There is a technology called CableCard which attempts to build the functionality of the cable box into the TV however the current version is all but useless. In the future with CableCard 2.0 your cable provider will give you a card you slide into the TV. The Menus, Programming Guides, and OnDemand will all be controlled by your TV and TV's remote.

But to directly answer your question, it depends on your TV and the source of the signal (cable box, wall, etc).

No. Your regular coaxial cable is fine but to get a better picture get the RG-6 coaxial cable instead of the RG-59.
