My boyfriend and I are looking for a dog, we live in an apartment and have seen dogs that cost hundreds of dollars and are out of our price range. I love animals and since I came to college am not able to bring my other animals with me.

Try any of these rescue/shelter sites. They let you search by breed and/or by your city name or zip code to find dogs close to you:

petfinder.com
1-800-save-a-pet.com
pets911.com
nextdaypets.com

This time of year the shelters and rescues are over-run with dogs, so it's a good time to get one!

Why are you looking for a dog if you have some at home? Couldn't you make a trip home and bring one back with you? Just a thought. However, again I'm going to refer to www.petfinders.com. These are animals in shelters and rescue groups that need a home. They usually require a small adoption fee but all are spayed, neutered and temperment tested. Good luck!

Check out local pet shelters. There are also shelters for breed-specific dogs. You will get them at half the cost and save a life at the same time. Unless your interested in purebreds with papers, which really are useless unless your looking to breed. Again, check into those shelters. Being in Arlington, I bet there are hundreds around.

Go to www.petfinder.com and enter the breed you want, the age you want, and your zip. Itll show you endless results starting from the closest to the furthest. And usually itll have a link to the specific shelter and gives adoption fees and adoption processes. Hope you check it out!

i got my papillon out of the thrifty nickel. Now those dogs are really expensive and i got mine for a little under half the price. And yes she is full blooded and a pure bred. I have her papers and all.
It is just some people out there have to many dogs or cats and want to find them good homes. and she is a great dog for apartment living. The lady just didnt have time for her anymore. I was really lucky. So if i was you i would start looking or watching the thrifty nickel. And you can even find the of the pets at your local animal shelter. good luck

There are lots of Rescue groups in the DFW area that may be able to help you.

Arlington Animal Services also has a shelter that moves a lot of animals through it. Rescuing one from there would be marvelous, meaning it's one less animal that they have to kill.

Check out an animal shelter! There are so many small dogs that need loving homes there. And the adoption fee is usually rather small in comparison to buying a pure-bred puppy. Try Petfinder.com, too. They're good for finding regional animals and people who have them up for adoption.
