I remember watching it & when he lost, it was SO damn sad. You knew it was the end of an era. I'll never forget at the end of it, they played "He Touched Me".

He fought Trevor Berbick I thought Ali won by 1 point or the fight was a draw. Either way he looked horrible and should not have been fighting. Berbick was just such a crappy fighter Ali was never in any real trouble. I think Ali would have beating berbick in 78 and that was a very faded ali.

No but he should have retired after the Holmes bout. He physically could not hurt anyone with a punch for years after the Shavers bout. It is ironic that Holmes was a sparring partner for Ali. Holmes must have been thinking what happened to this guy who used to kick my rear end in the ring.

Ali's ego and vanity that helped him become a great fighter also contributed to his unceremonious exit from boxing. It was sad. As I was too young to realize it then, he really should have retired after Manila (Smokin' Joe also). That would've been the way to go out, but as always hindsight is 20/20.

I think when Tyson destroyed Holmes in '88, that was kind of like revenge for him beating Ali.

yes this was a bout where Ali was way past his prime and even in 77-78 he would have beaten Berbick....he should have retired in 77 after the Shavers bout or definitely after his 2nd bout with Spinks in 78...Ali was thee greatest including(louis,dempsey and Marciano}

I am happy that I was fortunate enough to miss that "fight".I would have hated to see Ali beaten by a boxer who he could've defeated handcuffed in his prime or even decline.
