I just fired my business partner, am I a jerk?
I don't regret it, because they were holding me back.
The bills were getting ignored, & the company name was registered under me.
How long does it take for someone to realize I was just concerned about the company's welfare?
I don't think it came as a shock to them, because things were going to come as an end sooner or later...

You may be a jerk in their eyes but you werte doing it for the best. You want your buisness to strive so you should not have people holding you back. If they did not do their work you should just fire them and hire some people who will acctually work for the money.

As long as the partner doesn't have equal stake in the business then there's nothing wrong with getting rid of dead weight. If the partner did help to found the business, you might have a problem on your hand. Business splits are also known as divorces and for good reason.

Business is business. You have to make your decisions based on the health of the company. It sounds like you did that. That doesn't make you a jerk unless you were unprofessional about it.
