Please don't try with scissors! You'll ruin them. Take your dog to the vet or use a good finger nail file on them. Be careful though if you do it yourself. The nail being trimmed does not hurt the dog though.

Go to a professional groomer to have them clipped. Most places will do it for under $10. You should not be using scissors, as this is not appropriate for cutting a dog's nails and you run a huge risk of badly injuring your dog.

Most dog nails cannot be cut with scissors. They have special clippers for this. You can usually find them at any pet store. You have to be careful on how short you cut them as you can cut the quick and they will bleed. If you are not familiar with this procedure, I would take your dog to the vet and watch them.

Don't use scissors, you could hurt your pup, they make special clippers (about $5 at wal-mart) on the box it tells you how to do it. Getting your dog to cooperate is another story, My husband has to strandle our German shepard to clip his. If that doesn't work go the the vet about once every 1-1 1/2 months its cheap and only takes a few minutes.

You should have them trimmed with dog nail trimmers on a regular basis. Take your dog to the vet or a groomer. It costs about $10-12 to get it done. If you didn't know what you were doing and came after me to trim my nails with scissors I'd run too!!!

You have to get special dog nail clippers. $8 or less at any PetSmart or PetCo store. You only want to clip the tip (the part that curves over). Its better to get your dog in the habit of that as pup.
If your terrier is older, you may want to have your vet do it or go to a grooming place. If she is apt to bite, they will muzzle her (for her and the groomer's safety) and be present so your dog can see you. Give her reassuring sounds, praises, and treats.
Good Luck!

DO NOT USE SCISSORS!!! You could injure her badly. There are special clippers made to clip dog's nails but they shouldn't used by someone who doesn't know what they are doing. Best bet see a professional groomer or your vet. Petsmart has groomers on staff that may help you with this.

You can buy nail clippers specifically made for dogs at any larger pet store. (Never try to use scissors on your dog's nails.)
If you're unable to find suitable clippers, or can find the clippers but the dog won't let you touch her feet, we suggest you take the dog to a groomer or your vet's office and have the nails professionally clipped. This will cause less aggravation for you and your dog.

You're supposed to use dog claw clippers. You might have to get somone one to hold the dog while you do it. If you look online you can find lots of sites that will show you exactly where to clip them. Also, make sure you have styptic powder in case you cut the nail quick by accident!

Most good pet shops (and vets) sell a clipper which looks a little like a pair of miniature secateurs. It has a smallish octagonal hole for the claw and a very precise cutting action- similar to secateurs!.
Little grey thing in the photo gets hers done if the road walking we do doesn't wear them down enough.
Pretty inexpensive and a doddle to use.
