I got a cartilage piercing (upper ear) seven years ago. I decided to take the earring out about 6 months ago. Everything was fine, until yesterday I noticed that it was looking swollen and red (it is also warm, indicating infection). What can I do to clear this up?
Thanks!

Keep it clean using a saline solution (get some contact lense solution for sensitive eyes, or mix sea salts with warm water). If it doesn't clear up after a few days, go see your doctor and they might prescribe you an antibiotic. You want to be careful that the hole doesn't close up while the infection is still there, because it could turn into an abscess.

I agree with lizard, you can also use peroxide and neosporn, or any over the counter anti-biotic ointment, just don't let it go too long if it doesn't clear up in a few days go see a doc.
