The bible is an anthology written by over 30 men in a period of 1500 years. That's why.
"The Bible was not written in one specific year or in a single location. The Bible is a collection of writings, and the earliest ones were set down nearly 3500 years ago.
The first five books of the Bible are attributed to Moses and are commonly called the Pentateuch (literally "five scrolls").
Moses lived between 1500 and 1300 BC, though he recounts events in the first eleven chapters of the Bible that occurred long before his time (such as the creation and the flood).
These earliest accounts were handed on from generation to generation in songs, narratives, and poetry.
In those early societies there was no writing as yet and people passed on these oral accounts with great detail and accuracy.
The earliest writing began when symbols were scratched or pressed on clay tablets. The Egyptians refined this technique and developed an early form of writing known as hieroglyphics. The Bible tells us that Moses was "educated in all the learning of the Egyptians", so he would have been familiar with the major writing systems of his time. We also read that God gave Moses "two tablets of the Testimony, the tablets of stone inscribed by the finger of God"(Exodus 31:18). All this leads to the conclusion that the earliest writings in the Bible were set down around 1400 BC.
The writings of the thirty or so other contributors to the Old Testament span a thousand years! They recount the times and messages from Moses' successor, Joshua, to the last of the Old Testament prophets, Malachi, who wrote his little tract around 450 BC.
Then there is a 500-year period when no writings were contributed to the Bible. This is the period between the testaments, when Alexander the Great conquered much of the world and when the Greek language was introduced to the Hebrews. Indeed, they began to use Greek so much that the Hebrew language was replaced by Greek and by another language, Aramaic, which was spoken all over that area of the world at that time.
The New Testament was written during a much shorter period, i.e. during the last half of the first century AD. The Bible closes with a majestic book of visions and dramatic views of the future. It was penned by the aged Apostle John around 95 AD and describes the new heaven and the new earth when God's kingdom will embrace the universe and all rebellion and death will be a thing of the past."

The new testament is the completion of the old testament. It is a spiritual evalution of a relationship between God and man.
Many of the old testament laws were ceremonial laws. These are the ones that are done away with. The Ten Commandments have not been done away with. Jesus gave the completion of the law in His Sermon on the Mount. In expressing the fullness of holiness it was made evident that all men need redemption. Who can live up to this standard. Only when I accepted Jesus as my Savior and received the Holy Spirit was I able to begin to live a holy life. My sinful nature is to hard to overcome without the power of God.
Again with the question about Solomon and David and the concubines and many wives, I have concluded that God allowed it as a stage of our spiritual evolution. I must quickly add that we don't have to understand all the why's and wherefores to know, love, and serve God.
It doesn't matter if you see it one way and I see it another in many issues that come up in the Bible. It is not my job to put God on trial. I am responsable to decide if I want to love and trust Him and to fear and obey Him. And that is my choice. Since my faith has reached a place where I no longer doubt God, I can relax and enjoy knowing Him better through reading and studying both the old and new testament. Whatever I don't understand now, I will understand when the veil is lifted from my eyes in heaven. That is enough for me.

The Old and New Testament do conflict with one another, they go hand in hand so to speak. As it i said the Old Testament prophesies while the New Testament fulfills. The first premise one must have to understand them is faith. The Bible makes it known that faith is a gift and that without faith it is impossible to please God. Still, the Old Testament deals with the letter of the law and the New Testament deals with the spirit of the law. If one does not believe my next statement most likely will not mean much to him or her, but those who believe it will be of some validly. In the days of the Old Testament believers had to work out their own soul salvation, whereas in the New Testament all we we have to do is accept and believe that Christ lived, died and rose from the grave and by that faith receive a new birth from God through the gift of His Holy Spirit and heaven becomes our home.
It would take me longer to testify of the situation of why more than one wife was allowed during the Old Covenant, but is considered wrong in this day and time. But, know this "What God has joined together, let no man put asunder."

There is no conflict. The Law of Moses was given because people were not ready to live the higher law. The Hebrews were given the Aaronic Priesthood, because they were not ready for the Melchizedek Priesthood. The New Testament does not mandate monogamy except for certain church callings. Certain obligations such as animal sacrifice, circumcision and dietary laws were changed, because their purpose was fulfilled by Christ or that the covenant was opened to the whole world.

When Jesus Died for you and me it changed everything. We have a personal relationship with him and also He left His Holy Spirit with us to help us. The old has passed away and the new has come. A lot of the rules in the old test were man made. Mainly due to hygine and things. Jesus made it personal.

because it's not written by jesus, god or any 'higher being' for that matter. it's written by leaders of society (not kings etc..) who tried and succeeded in preaching what they believed to be good moral values, which people should live by.
thus creating a civilised society, before the days of law, acts, police, etc...
I see the god squad are not at church this evening!!!

Jesus didn't come to abolish the law but rather to fulfill what it lacked. Paul said, in Romans, "You are no longer under law, but under grace."
According to Romans, the law was a mirror to show us our need for salvation. Jesus came to provide us that salvation & to show us how to live...not by the letter of the law but out of love for God & people.
