Me and my boyfriend of 8 months called it quits Sunday because i'm graduating and going home, and then going to law school. My parents don't know about him because they wouldn't approve that he's a different color than me (my parents financially support me and i'm afraid of what they would do...i know it was messed up and unfair on his part) and he flat out told me that that's the reason we had to break up.

The thing is we had such a wonderful time together, and that's the only thing that came between us. We were each others' first loves. I hope that one day when i get on my feet and don't have to worry about how my parents would handle things...him and I could get back together...but it'll be about 3 years. Plus he told me if we ever got another chance, he would give us another chance.

So I guess what i'm asking is, do you believe that people are meant to be together..and if that's true, that no matter what, if they're meant to be together, they will be together?

If you are meant to be, then it will happen. Fate is a funny thing. I'm waiting to see something transpire in my own fate. It could be next month or it could be next year or 5 years, just have to wait and see.

Fate is what you make. I don't buy into the whole "if it's meant to happen then it will" philosophy of life. I believe that you have control over what happens in your life either with your actions or taking no action. The action you and your boyfriend took was to break up because of what someone else might think of you along with potentially losing your financial backing. Are you sure your parents would cut you off? Have you ever even brought up the subject, theoretically, with them about dating someone from another race? I have a hard time believing that parents, and I am one, would turn their back on family just because they were dating out of their race, class, whatever....

Yes. But look at Romeo and Juliet...sometimes being together is different from what people have in mind. It's a cruel world. If you want to be with him tho, nothing should stop you. Wait until after college. Or, ok this is going to sound horrible, but have his child and tell your parents you don't want your kid growing up without a father and you must be with him. If you want it bad enough, you will figure something out.

Yes, I do. However, it may not work out as planned. He may move on and marry or you may. Then 20 or 30 years down the road, you may both find each other single again. If this is true love, don't let it go. Some people never find it and you have . Hold on to it.

I'm pro you, however try to convince your parents and do't lose them.
You are to study law, so urge all your convincing abilities, be logical, your case is fair and just, don't be a loser on your first case.
