What month is it the cheapest to fly to Rio from NYC or MIA.

Both New York and Miami have non stop flights to Sao Paulo and Rio. Obviously flying from Miami would be cheaper, the cheapest months to travel are mid sept. to mid november and mid Jan. to mid May.

Go to Expedia and plug in the information yourself. It's really simple and it will give you a much clearer picture of your answer than what anyone else here could tell you.
But, logically consider the fact that New York is much farther away from Rio De Janiero than Miami is. Miami also has an International Airport.

You may think twice about visiting Rio with all the rampant crime and broad daylight robberies of tourists there. Not too long ago, a bus full of British tourists was stopped and robbed by a bunch of gun totting local gang members, and the Brazillian government isn't doing a damned thing about it. Unless you know where you are going and have a knowledgable tour guide who knows which places to avoid, don't risk it.
