hes 50, he lives on a farm and has more tools and tractors and stuff than anyone i've ever met in my life. He's always working on the farm and he wouldnt like something like a vacation because he would rather work (honestly i know its wierd but he gets very upset when he has to take a day off to do something else like spend a day on the lake or anything!) so i honestly have no idea what to get him... he has all the tools he'll ever need and dosent like to do anything else!!

ugh, i know what you're going through, father in law's are SO hard to shop for! you need to try to find something that will be usefull to him. for example, i got my father in law a handheld smoothie mixer, because he's getting a gastric bypass surgery soon, and he'll be on a liquid diet for awhile. since your father in law does so much work outdoors, maybe you could find him a new jacket and hat to keep him warm during the winter. or you could get him a gift card for someplace like sears or home depot, it will come in handy if he needs to replace some of his tools. a good bottle of whiskey couldn't hurt, either.

If my kids were to get their dad something -- and he's in the same age 'bracket', he would probably like a gift card to some place to eat. Not too fancy, though.

My husband is into fishing and it would be wrong, wrong, wrong to get him something for fishing -- unless is was a gift subscription to a fishing magazine. Are there any gift subscriptions to a magazine he likes to read relating to work or his hobby?

Does he like chocolates? My husband does and these would be great, too -- a box of candy he really likes. Or one of those gifts a month for chocolate.

Hope these ideas give you something to think about and perhaps even give you the idea for a perfect gift for someone who holds a special place in your family.

give him a bunch of broken stuff. if he has lots of tools and enjoys fixing stuff it will give him something to do.

If he ahs any hobbies maybe you could get him a kit. for instance if he likes working with wood get him something made of wood he has to put together. or a bunch of stencils so he can make those signs with peoples name on them. next christmas everyone will get a sign with their name on it

i am sure he likes fixing things or assembling them so maybe some old tractor models since he seems to enjoy tractors he can put some together. look for models that were popular about 35 to 40 years ago when he was a boy and he would love it

Actually I just Thought of something more. nice new work bench or shelf unit for his work shop. one he has to put togehter. my dad would love a gift like that. that would give him something to do in his shop. he woulld have to figure out where to put it or hang it. and he might even have to re arrange stuff. he would act like he didnt like it and complain but I know he would actually love it..

Get a picture of the farm and have it watercolored in Photoshop (which is easy) and it will look like a painting...or order a satelite photo of the farm, frame it up and he'll love it. I do this kind of thing all the time and people love it.
