Can you show in the Qur'an where it says you must sacrifice an animal during Eid? If it says you must sacrifice an animal, how is the sacrifice done? If it doesn't say you must sacrifice an animal, why is it done anyway?

Udhiyah, or sacrifice, as a ritual, is offered only in Eid ul-Adha.

In Qur'an:

[22:37] : "It is not their meat nor their blood, that reaches Allah. it is your piety that reaches Him..."

[2:196] "And complete the Hajj or 'umra in the service of Allah. But if ye are prevented (From completing it), send an offering for sacrifice, such as ye may find..."

[22:36] ".. And (as for) the camels, We have made them of the signs of the religion of Allah for you; for you therein is much good; therefore mention the name of Allah on them as they stand in a row, then when they fall down eat of them and feed the poor man who is contented and the beggar; thus have We made them subservient to you, that you may be grateful."

The sacrifice is done to help the poor, and in remembrance of Prophet Abraham's willingness to sacrifice his son (according to the Muslims, Ishmael) at God's command.

Qur'an talks about sacrifice in some scattered places, but don't directly order to do so. That's why sacrificing animals is NOT Fard (mandatory by clear evidence). It is regarded as wajib (mendatory, but comes after the level of Fard).

The Islamic laws are not only derived from Qur'an, but also Sunnah (legends and practice of prophet Muhammad (pbuh). The Udhiyah is the Sunnah of Prophet Ibrahim, Prophet Isma`eel and Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon them all).

I can't show you where its written because like the Qur'an is a big book...... But I can tell you how its done...... First you tie an animal [ usually a cow, lamb, or a camel ], then you take a long knife & cut the the throat of the animal while saying God's name, then you skin the animal, eat it & share it with people....... You might wanna know WHY we sacrifice an animal,
so what happend is there was this prohpet who loved his son dearly. he also loved allah. ( you know what i mean by love , not love love) so Allah told him to cut of his sons neck if he truly loved him. The prophet had no choice and was very sad. He talked to his son about it, and his son said if Allah wants that to happen, then it should.
So the prophet put a blinfold and was about to cut his sons neck ( he was ver sad- but for Allah he could do it) tthen suddenly Allah realized that he truly loved Allah and replaced the son with a goat and his son was not harmed in anyway, and that is where the whole ritual comes from.
