This song or poem relates to the parent being proud of his family name, and the child dragging it through the mud.

This is the one about keeping the name respectful.

You got it from your father
It was all he had to give
So it's yours to use and cherish
For as long as you may live

If you lost the watch he gave you
It can always be replaced;
But a black mark on your name
Can never be erased

It was clean the day you took it
And a worthy name to bear
When he got it from his father
There was no dishonor there

So make sure you guard it wisely
After all is said and done
You'll be glad the name is spotless
When you give it to your son

I typed "gave you my name" on Google and the song TWISTED by Santana came up...

Here's the verse where the phrase is:

I gave you everything even gave you my ring
For better or for worse baby gave you my name
Get through every season summer winter spring & fall
& one thing you can say is I was with you through it all
I'll miss your touch, I'll miss your ways these games with love
that we can't play
I've gotta walk away I've gotta leave so I can find my way to
still believe

I hope that helps some??
