I'm looking for a nice 1 bedroom studio/apartment/loft near public transportation and within walking distance to bars, restaurants, anything exciting. I'm hoping to find more of a young singles atmosphere that could be close to a college, but must be a safe place to live. Any suggestions??? Thanks so much for the help!

I am 24 also and live in the city.

First of all...go to Craiglist.com...you will find the BEST apts!! and when you find one you like, grab it cuz they go fast. Next, google "chicago neighborhoods" and look at images of the areas. Stay away from anything below the loop.

Areas to look for -

Lincoln Park - Most popular area, large, lots of young people, near the lake (your best bet)

Lakeview - This is basically the same as Lincoln Park, This is where i live. We pay less than 700 a month for a 1 bdrm and are 1 block from the lake.

Wrigleyville - Right by cubs park, near lincolnpark and lakeview. Very Fun area...These three areas are similar.

Bucktown/Wickerpark - These are also young fun areas, but a bit further from the lake...worth a shot.

Other good areas - North Center, OldTown

Stay away from Wicker Park, Logan Square, Irving Park, Rodgers Park.

These names mean a lot when you look on craigslist.

Also, go to realtyandmortgage.com...they have great affordable apts in the greatest areas!!

Wrigleyville is probably your best bet. it will probably be a bit more expensive but Chicago is an expensive city to live in!! my best friend lives off of Thorton, which is a bit further north. very nice area and within 2-3 blocks of the El.

Lincoln Park is the place to be!
However, if you're brainy in the sciences and trying for University of Chicago then Hyde Park is great too.

Get an agent - it will be worth every penny! He/she can do all the hard work for you, such as price range, area, other 'wants', and then all you have to do is visit the places they find for you. My sister lives near Wrigley field, and the area is totally safe.

use aparment people
they have 3 locations, lakeview, river north and evanstan.

i used the one in lakeview and they really help you.

you tell them what you are looking for i.e. how much you want to spend, how big/small, locations

then they drive you around, in their car to as many or as little apts that match you

they are really helpfull
