I am Deist; I only celebrate Christmas because everyone around me is Christian and insists on celebrating it. But Christmas was originally a pagan holiday celebrating the winter solstice, not the birth of Christ, but even if it wasn't, would it matter? Christmas is more of a secular holiday than a religious holiday anymore. Personally, I could do without it (my former job I worked on Christmas sometimes), though I do kind of like to decorate the small Xmas tree in my office.

Probably because they realize it is not Jesus' birthday, and they also have proved to themselves that it is a "pagan holiday" so why not blend in with the so-called christians who celebrate a pagan holiday. Which according to the Bible, anything "pagan" is condemned in the Word of God.

Christmas is a prominent religious holiday today. But history shows that it was not a celebration observed by the very early Christians. Jesus told his followers to observe a memorial of his death, not of his birth.

The fact is, December 25 is not the date of Jesus’ birth. It could not have been, since the Bible shows that at the time of his birth shepherds were still in the fields at night. They would not have been there in the cold, rainy season of winter. Actually December 25 was chosen as the date to celebrate Jesus’ birth because, as The World Book Encyclopedia explains: “The people of Rome already observed it as the Feast of Saturn, celebrating the birthday of the sun.”

I celebrate Yule - which is where the tree and the colors red and green came from, as well as the yule log, holly, feasting, gift-giving, burning candles through the night and mistletoe. I celebrate Christmas with my family because my FAMILY is Christian, and it would be incredibly disrespectful for me to say, "Sorry, don't believe in your God, start celebrating a few days early and I might give you presents again." I don't celebrate snow or Santa. I don't like snow and Coca Cola made Santa (not St. Nicholas) up.

Yule is close to Christmas. And my Chrisitian family members celebrate so I go to the dinner with them. It's more secular in our family anyways - even the christian relatives don't go to church. It has become more a holiday of being together. We have busy lives, we are all off doing our own thing in other parts of the country, but the holiday shuts down the system and gives us all a chance to get back home for a day or two and see everyone again. That's why I continue to celebrate the holiday.

Christmas is a pagan holiday to begin with. So why are you celebrating it?

December 25: Pagan
Birth of a Savior: Pagan (Birth of Mithras, predates Jesus by quite ab it).
Christmas tree: Pagan
Mistletoe: Pagan
Gift Giving: Pagan (predominantly associated with Saturnalia)
Use of lights/candles: Pagan (celebrate the rebirth of the sun)

So except for you just saying Jesus's birthday... in fact, there's nothing Christian about it at all.

During the early years of Christianity, many arrested Christians were offered a choice: one time, just once, place a PINCH of incense into the brazier in front of a statue of one of the gods or of caesar, even if openly denying the statue's divinity... and their lives would be forever spared. Or... refuse and die.

To avoid even the APPEARANCE of being associated with pagan rituals... they refused. And died.

How's your faith doing these days? Would you be a martyr for your Messiah? If so ... why are you celebrating a pagan holiday?

Christmas is a pagan holiday stolen by Christians.

Jesus was not born in December.

The real question is why do Christians celebrate Christmas when it has NOTHING to do with Christ?

Hmmm?
