First, make sure her collar is light-weight and comfortable. When you take her out, take some treats along with you. With the puppy beside you, walk a couple of steps, encouraging her to come along - call her name, pat your leg, encourage her along. When she takes a step or two with you, give her lots of praise and a treat. Remember, at 9 weeks she's just a baby so don't expect too much. Reward her verbally and with treats and encourage her along. Right at the beginning don't be concerned about where she goes - you can follow her for now. When she's a little more settled into walking, that's the time to encourage her to follow you without dragging you, in an approximation of a heel.
Be patient and calm and encourage her along and she'll do just fine in no time!

#1 they do not like a leash at ALL !!! something about the kind of dog I guess. my best friend has one and he goes nuts on a leash.
#2 get one of the small retractable kind from Walmart---you can lock it to a certain length from the handle....hold him until you get to the outside starting point. and let him sniff and explore for a min, then start a slow pace and he will follow. let him stop and sniff ( he is curious and will stop several times to mark his territory) I would use the same routine for a while, walk to the same places in the same order.....he will want to go the other way and you need to just tug a little and speak to him, let him know that you need to go this way....he will rebel, but once he know you mean business--it will work out ok... make sure he is told "no" when he goes the other way.
all things worth while, take some time....
good luck

I tugged on the leash so he knew to walk The first time outside I will admit it took more than a gently tug, more like gentle dragging. However, once he got used to the leash, My choc Brown toy poodle was pulling me where ever he wanted to go. It give them the impression they are in charge not us. Apparently, unknown to me, allowing this this is the gateway to bad behavior and disobedience. The only thing that got him under control was $200 private obedience classes which worked wonders. Thank goodness. good luck

I would suggest to take her out for like 5 to 10 mintues a day and if she wont walk just pick her up and carry her back home then she should get use to it...then when she is a little older she will want to go out for a walk and it should be easy as that when she wants to go for a walk...but these things take some time so be patient and you will get to walk your puppy...hope this helps and good luck with your puppy...

She really shouldn't be out an about until she has all of her shots anyway, so please don't take her to Petsmart or Petco to learn like someone else suggested. They're a hotbed of parvo.

I would suggest calling pet smart or pet co, they are pretty good about helping people . You can also look it up on-line.

Leave it on her in the house (supervised) and let her drag it around until she gets used to it.
