Of course atheism isn't a religion. It is a way of thinking, a stystem of belief if you will. Some people get confused and think that a system of beliefs and a religion are the same thing.

Many say it because some atheists are very passionate about atheism. Almost "religiously" passionate, you could say.

I am a passionate atheist (used to be agnostic - raised agnostic)

i have no religion

It is not a religion

Merriam-Webster's Definition

atheism
One entry found for atheism.

Main Entry: athe·ism
Pronunciation: 'A-thE-"i-z&m
Function: noun
Etymology: Middle French athéisme, from athée atheist, from Greek atheos godless, from a- + theos god
1 archaic : UNGODLINESS, WICKEDNESS
2 a : a disbelief in the existence of deity b : the doctrine that there is no deity

So now since we all know that it is not considered a religion,I guess it's safe to say they do come to the Religion and Spirituality Forum to cast doubt into the minds of religious people and to push their beliefs on us?

You're right. That question has been asked so damned many times. You'd think people would be able to figure it out for themselves. Atheism holds that deities do not exist. Period. That could be called a believe, but it definitely isn't a religion.

WOW! This is the most stupid quetion ever. ATHEISM is not a type of religion, it is the lack of one. They do not believe in any religion over another, which means they don't believe in an after life or God. ATHEISM IS THE LACK OF RELIGION!

Athiets dont believe in ANYTHING therefore by definition of Atheism they are not a religion.

Agnostics are in that fine line between belief and non belief.. and are not a religion

Atheism is a form or religion.

Your original question is the one that doesnt make sense.

PS...Alicia (below) Define Religion: Religion is a system of social coherence based on a common group of beliefs or attitudes concerning an object, person, unseen being, or system of thought considered to be supernatural, sacred, divine or highest truth, and the moral codes, practices, values, institutions, traditions, and rituals associated with such belief or system of thought.

System of thought considered to be the highest truth..isnt that what atheists believe......
