I've seen so many answers on these boards putting down science. What exactly is it about science that makes you distrust it? So far as I can tell science doesn't lie.

Selar's point is exactly what i am talking about. she says: "I just do not buy the whole 'evolution' theory you guys deceided to make up."

Evoultion wasn't just "made up". it can and has been proven to occur, unlike the christian creation theory, that's right it's a thoery, and barely one at that. Why haven't scientist been able to prove through DNA that we came from adam and eve?

or is DNA just a "crazy theory" as well?

Science may not lie, but it doesn't necessarily mean that it's always true. Many things in science are theories and hypotheses, although at the same time there are many laws and the like. No, I do not distrust science (I'm a biochem major), BUT it is always important to take every single piece of evidence under HUGE scrutiny before you settle for the right answer. Just because it's labelled under "science," it doesn't automatically mean that it's true.

I should also say that I am a Christian.

Because, man made up science.

I'm not saying that we don't have the general idea, but we could and ARE missing the point in many places.

For example, I'm an auditor. When I evaluate something to be correct or not, I don't just take someone's word for it nor something THEY came up with.......I corroborate it with another source. Science is a set of measurement and theories mankind came up with (if I lean toward taking out religion completely here). No where have we been able to confirm or disprove our ideas with a third independent source........say, aliens?

And I'm not trying to be funny about it. Seriously. Not any other species on the planet can independently support it either. It is all one sided.

I think most of us distrust science because what appears to be true today, may not be true tomorrow. It used to be that they best way to cure diseases was leeches and blood lettings, eat a tape worm to lose weight. Science used to teach that gravity was us being pushed to the Earth by atmospheric pressure and now it's believed we are pulled but inertia, maybe in a couple years we'll be told we're being sucked to the Earth? How about all the medications that come on the market to cure something and then a year or 2 later there's a class action suit because it caused more problems and didnt cure anything? What is there really to trust with science? There is truth to science, no doubt, but man has a really hard time figuring it out.

With science there's so many theories about the same thing that it is impossible to ever get a real answer. Even if you can prove something in science there will always be another explanation for why it is happening on a more in depth level of the subject. With science there is a never ending chain of possible explanations and more knowledge about subjects that have infinite possibilities, which shows that science can never show the truth.

No, scientists for the most part do not lie, since science by definition is a search for the truth. However they can make mistakes. Still, as a professional scientist, I don't mistrust science. I have great, but not absolute, confidence in the ability of science to uncover the truth about the natural world. I also have absolute faith in God to guide me to eternal life and to reveal supernatural realities that lie beyond the purview of science.

Actually some science has lied. Take a look at recent stem cell publications. People who distrust a thing don't understand the thing. So usually it is ignorance.

Anyone who says they distrust science better walk to work, light their house with candles and only read off handwritten manuscripts. Hell they shouldn't even be using a computer, you know how much science goes into one of these things.

It doesn't lie, but it takes the beauty away from things.

"Science attempts to answer questions whose beauty is that they have no answer."

Also there is only so much science can go and then God comes in. And faith. Utter BLIND, unproven, faith.

Hope that helped :-)

No, God doesn't lie. Science is KNOWLEDGE of FACTS. But so much of what is being passed off as "science" is pseudoscience - faulty human interpretations of facts being disguised as "fact".
