Heya I wanted a photo cake for mine and my friends birfday; but i came to wondeering how they make it. Does anyone know. May seem random. lOL!x

Usually they're printed out on sugar paper which is peel n stick. An inkjet printer uses food color ink and prints the same way a regular inkjet would, then you transfer it onto the top of an iced cake.

I don't if this is exactly what they use now, but a few years ago someone came up with the bright idea (seriously) of making inkjet cartridges that sprayed food coloring instead of ink. Set it up on stilts and put a cake under it, and it can spray a photo on.

Pretty darn creative, IMO. You could, in theory, try this at home, but you'd need an absolutely clean cartridge - not one that had ink in it.

So, whatever they use now is probably similar.

I don't recall the site right now, but I'll bet if you Google "Photo Cake Kits" you'll find what you need. :)

I can tell you.. THEY AIN'T CHEAP! And, all of the info I've seen on them (it's been a few months) require a Cannon printer.

Both paper and inks are USDA approved.
