I have the potential opportunity to spend the year at either McMurdo Station or Amundsen-Scott South Pole Station in Antarctica. It would be for a whole year with no way to leave during the Winter. My girlfriend thinks I should go "down there" for the experience and money, but she also knows she won't see me for one year. What is her real motive?

Her real motive might be for you to get some experience, adventure and cash under your belt.

Here is a thought... Try asking her to apply for a job down there also. believe it or not. Raytheon Polar Services actually likes to have people down there that are married or otherwise already together because there is alot more mental stablility and emotional support for the long winters. If the two of you went, you could now have the adventure together to cherish into your old age, a chance to "get out on your own" without parents (if this applies to you), and 2 people make a hell of alot more money than just 1. PLUS you wont be spending hundreds of dollars shipping gifts back to her, and phone calls.. (I ran up several hundred dollars, because I used the phone alot, and because it was aat the time $0.99 a min. now it is regular AT&T rates as if you were calling from Brewster washington (if you know someone near there, you could actually make a local call (G)..

Hope this helps.

Don't be suspicious about your gf only because she wants you to go somewhere else. It doesn't mean anything really. If it's a good opportunity for your career then why not give it a try? U may ask her whether or not she would like to accompany you to go there n see her reaction.

It's not necessarily she's trying to get rid of you, maybe she honestly thinks what she said. we don't all have hidden motives. maybe she realizes that you guys' love won't disappear after a year. will yours for her? It may just be your insecurites speaking
