when you do switch, start placing small amounts in the dish of the new one--mixed with the science diet....each day add more of the switched one and less of your other brand......until you have all of your new kind each day.
that way you are not messing up their diets and stomachs as well.
I use Beneficial it is moderately priced and they have a couple of different blends. I have a three year old Jack Russell so he gets the Veggie blend for high energy dogs...(it has the green trim)
Good luck...thats whay my Vet recommended, sort of step therapy in food.

I use Iams for my dog, and I always have. However, it's an expensive food as well. If you'd like to switch your dog over to a different food, you'll need to introduce it slowly, i.e 1 3/4 cup of SD, 1/4 cup of new food for a few days, then 1 1/4 cup of SD, 3/4 cup of new food, etc, etc until you are fully into the new food.
By not slowly introducing new food to your puppy's digestive system, your asking for some extremely loose stools in your house.
Also, I must mention that by feeding your dog a lower quality dog food, you're setting her up for a dull coat, bad teeth, a tempermental digestive system and overall bad health.
Your call though.

check the ingredients on your current food and the protien content, etc....write it all down.
Then head out to a large chain store that sells food for cheap...find the cheaper brand that most closely resembles the expensive one ingredient and protein wise. Not all cheap dog foods are bad, but some certainly are.
As for making the switch, mix the new food in with the old and increase the ratio of new food daily.

i'm going to start using natural balance. u can buy it from petco or specialty stores. science diet....no way. compare the ingredients. thats the best way to pick dog food. the 5 top ingredients, is mostly what the food is made of. u dont want any by-products ("leftover" chicken, beef, etc) u dont want to see corn as your top 5 either....otherwise, your gonna have a dog that craps WAY too much. it should take about 3-5 days to switch dog food. add alittle of the new food each day....good luck

Wellness brand is a good brand of food, Royal Canin is pretty good, but not the greatest, i switched to Wellness from Royal Canin. My dog was picky about eating it, it is a good healthy food though. Here is a bit of info to check: http://dogs.about.com/od/dietandnutrition/f/dog_food_why.htm
Also it might benefit you to know that most cheaper dog foods are made up of bi-products. Larger companies own these dog food companies, and send their, not edible by humans waste to these businesses to put into dog food. I recommend good natural dog food to keep you dog living at it's best and for as long as it can. Good food is essential, ever seen Super Size Me the movie? That shows what bad food can do to a person. Same goes for a dog.

My dogs use food from a coop and they are the healthiest dogs on the block. I suggest you pick some kind of puppy food from wal-mart and slowly feed your puppy a little bit of it at a time with its food your feeding it now. And gradually feed it more and more. That is how my neighbor did with her chihuahua.

Purina one. You can go to their website and get a free trial by taking the Purina One Challenge. Just make sure that when you switch the food, you do it gradually over a week.
