The earliest organised cultures i.e. Mesopotamia and Aincient Egypt and cultures in the Middle East, Far East and the Meso-America were all Polytheistic i.e. they had many gods. Later came the modern Monotheistic cultures with the one god, though, of course, there are still successfull polytheistic religions today, ie Hinduism. Before all this you just had a rag-tag-and-bobtail collection of "petty" beliefs which were not "organised".
So the most literally acurate term to use is probably "pre-theological". I like it though I'm not sure your tutors will.

The Neanderthal burials excavated contained grave goods, suggesting that there have been religions for tens, maybe hundreds of thousands of years.
I have studied history for many years, don't know that there is a term for what you want.

There is none, religion is an intricate part of every culture and time up till the modern era. Only in the modern era do humans feel a disdain for the sacred.

Why do you need to give it a name or even term it? It is what it is and we havn't changed that today and we won't changed it tomorrow. People are just germs living in it as anything else. Simply you can't define whats greater then you.

Cain was the first one to bring a religon. Abel had the right way,

Genesis 4:2 And she again bare his brother Abel. And Abel was a keeper of sheep, but Cain was a tiller of the ground.
Genesis 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD.
Genesis 4:4 And Abel, he also brought of the firstlings of his flock and of the fat thereof. And the LORD had respect unto Abel and to his offering:
Genesis 4:5 But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.
Genesis 4:6 And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?
Genesis 4:7 If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.
Genesis 4:8 And Cain talked with Abel his brother: and it came to pass, when they were in the field, that Cain rose up against Abel his brother, and slew him.

and the result Cain the first murder over religion
