My best answer is find an excerise routine that you can do every day i.e. something you enjoy. Weight training obviously would help but if you cant stick to it for a year or indefinitely or you just get bored then its not going to help...

For me its bike riding, i ride a few miles every day without fail if its raining or not (I wear a poncho if its raining). The only days I miss are when its snowing or there is still uncleared snow. It is better for me because it is something I actually enjoy doing. Then you will burn a lot of calories, build legs and arms. Then you will be more hungry, go home drink a lot of milk and eat right, potatoes vegetables, steak, chicken and fish :-/

Well, what the others said is partly true. You're made the way you are for a reason. People are genetically inclined to be one way or the other. There are things you can do to nudge your body in a specific way. First, when you're at the gym, after warm-ups, do ONLY heavy weights. Not free weights cause you might not be able to control them but on a machine. Keep proteins and carbs in your system regularly. With the energy sources there, your body will feel the need to adapt. Lots of water, protein shakes of good quality, and always be doing something you think you can't do.

Go to a gym class with weights. I suggest the Big Four:Bench, Squat, Deadlift, Powerclean. But do something to increase your body mass. Eat more times a day. Get active and get confident in the process.

Learn how to carry your self. Look people in the eye, be firm in your decisions, become a stand up guy. Looks come second to character. If you have all of that then lift weights.

Eat a healthy diet. Get exercise. Maybe lift some weights. Your genetic makeup will determine how much benefit you are able to get from this.
Also, if you smoke, quit. It will make it harder for you to get any of this accomplished.
Also, whatever your results, you should like yourself for who you are, whether you're small or large.

You need to weight train. You didnt state how much you weight or how tall you are. Up your protein, "good" carbs (for energy) and Omega 3.
