An HD Ready display must have at least 720 lines of vertical resolution and be able to convert/downscale higher resolution signals to match its physical resoltion so thats a good base to start with.

If a display has a higher resolution like the one you quote above, the display will have more pixels to use when downscaling a higher resolution signal, or conversely more pixels to fill when upscaling a 720p or lower signal.

Contrast ratio as said before is something totally different, representing the magnitude of the difference between the darkest and lightest colours (black to white) that the display is better. Generally a higher contrast ratio is better resulting in a brighter display with, you guessed it, better contrast between light and dark.

As for sound, its unlikely to be great built in so I would make it a low priority and if your not happy in time, disable the crappy internal speakers and use some external ones or your hi-fi.

Whatever you do though go and look at a screen you are going to buy in a shop beforehand. You will be able to see what it really looks like, and how it compares to other screens available.

Good luck, and happy viewing!

Completely different.
Most I have seen do show both.
Resolution is the number of dots - the bigger the number, the greater the detail.
Contrast ratio is the difference between it's lightest colour, and it's darkest colour.
