How to make an image...?

Im currently trying to make an image that isnt square or rectangle, how do I create it with a transparent background?
Im currently using PhotoImpact XL if that helps.

You need to use a cropping tool that allows you to make a shape, or follow a border in the image. Once the background you want to eliminate is selected, erase it. The actual image will still extend out in a rectangle, but it will show as invisible if you want to layer it on something else.
