I believe I already have an answer for this below. I was just wanting to check and see if anyone else had any knowledgable comments.
I have heard many people comment on this subject including some Muslims. Some of the answers I've been told include:
(1) They are allowed any alcohol from sources other than grapes and grains; (2) They are allowed to drink anything, but not in excess; and (3) It's the idea that counts and they are not allowed any at all, regardless of where it came from;
There was also a 4th response which I believe to be the true one, there are many denominations and interpretations of the religious beliefs and some are more strict than others.

Muslims don't deal with it
Grapes and grains is good for health
but alcohol it is very very bad for health so Muslims don't drink it
Someone will tell you some medicines have alcohol:
Medicines are not harm the body it cures the the dieseases because scientists put it in accurately amount of alcohol to cure the body.

Drinking alcohol is a sin. It doesnt matter if it is wine, beer or southern comfort. Alcohol is alcohol and should not be consumed in any way. Of course if it non alcoholic it is fine.

Anything that in large quantities that can cause intoxication is forbidden in any amount. This especially includes drugs and alcohol.
