My son is 2.5 and he recognizes Santa but I don't think he actually gets the concept yet. I love the excitement of a child when he sees Santa so I'm wondering when I'll get to experience it with my son.

Thank you so far for the answers. We are teaching our children all aspects of Christmas, the real meaning along with the fun stuff. So please, answer only if you are agreeable to the concept of Santa being a fun and facinating part of childhood. I wasn't looking for judgemental comments or a lecture.

my dd is 3 1/2 this year and she is just now getting into it. This year she finally sat on his lap and told him what she wanted. Her grandma asked her what she wanted and then said oh i know a baby doll like ana's. My dd replyed with no silly i already asked santa for that. Last year she was excited by opening her presents when she saw them but the whole santa brought them wasn't to exciting for her, this year we're having lots of fun.

My son is 3 and my daughter is 4. This year she finally understands that Santa is something that you believe in. She is also understanding that not everyone does and that believing is part of what makes the magic. My son still doesn't understand the concept beyond just the basics - Santa is a man who brings presents and has magic and elves and reindeer.

My daughter is 3 1/2 this x-mas and fully understands santa- This year it will be all about the big read guy, but next x-mas I am going to implement Jesus into the reason for celebrating.
My son is 2 1/2 and not really paying attention to any x-mas thing. He watched the polar express but only because it had a choo-choo in it.

My parents told me the truth about Santa at the age of 8. I'm glad I think because of that and among other things I have a strong sense of reality as an adult.

My oldest is 3 (4 in January) & this is the first year that she actually knows what is going on. My 2.5 yr old is just going along with her sister. I am not sure that she really gets it yet.

I NEVER TAUGHT OUR GIRLS ABOUT THE SANTA WE SEE TODAY, BUT ABOUT SAINT NICHOLAS THE BISHOP THAT THIS LEGEND IS TRACED BACK TO. MORE IMPORTANTLY I SHARE THE STORY OF JESUS' BIRTH AND THE IMPORTANCE OF GIVING. I WANT MY CHILD TO BELIEVE I AM TELLING THEM THE TRUTH IN ALL THINGS SO I KNOW I SAID LIKE A SCROOGE, BUT WE CELEBRATE THE BIRTHDAY AND THE TRUE REASON FOR THE SEASON.
