In a perfect world everyone would act the same in church or at work, or at home, or when talking to that cop that just pulled him/her over.
Most of us don't have that kind of restraint though and at least try to show some respect in more respectable places.
Personally, I try not to swear regardless, but sometimes I find colorful metaphors appropriate:)

Use vulgar language at church, pretty soon you'll be asked to not come to church any more.

No. How do you see negativity in the fact that someone refrains from swearing in church or in front of people they think will be offended?
I think that's a good thing.
Your argument might apply in other areas though.

Yes, that is hypocritical. Someone who supposedly doesn't swear at church shouldn't swear away from church, either.
