A friend of mine has been depressed since she lost her baby, she was put on Celexa to stablize her mood. I just found out that for the last 4 months she's also been taking St. Johns Wort. What kind of problems might that cause? I take antidepressants and know that you aren't supposed to mix antidepressants and St. Johns Wort, but I don't know exactly why?

Both antidepressants such as Celexa and St. John's Wort affect serotonin levels. One issue with multiple meds that affect serotonin levels can be serotonin syndrome. Your friend really needs to talk to her doctor about this.

Understandig before ritual. And prayer before anything.
Your friend needs to understand before she takes ANYTHING for healing, that what SHE has been through, she may go through 3 more times in her child bearing years. While in Biology in college, the prof said that the average lady will have 3-4 miscarriages in her childbearing years. Now, about St Johns Wort. It CAN help you, like taking "Focus Complex," DOES help someone get to their R.E.M. sleep, and THROUGH it, to get a VERY nice sleep at night, which is VERY essential to good mental health. BUT, it's NOT the ONLY solution. She MUST have understanding, and possibly counseling to get through the shock of it all. Death is the most difficult thing for guys to accept. Seperation is the most difficult thing for girls. Period. Maybe she needs to also talk to other women who've had miscarriages. One is just around the corner. My prayers be with her!

You can not take St Johns wort and an MAOI. You should not have a problem taking it with an SSRI. Celexa is an SSRI.
