Warfarin should not cause water retention or weight gain. It is an anticoagulant, meaning that it prevents or slows clotting of the blood. That's all it does. What caused you to go on warfarin? Your water retention and weight gain could very likely be more due to your underlying disease process (CHF and diabetes mellitus come to mind).

Normaly those are not side effect from warfarin. Normal side effects include: GI distress (nausea, anorexia, abdominal cramps, diarrhea), hypersensitivity reactions (dermatitis, urticaria), and bleeding complications ranging form local ecchymoses(brusing) to major hemorrhage. I would definetly go back to your doctor and talk to him about the new water retention, this could have nothing to do with the warfarin and could be something else serious. Do not stop taking your warfarin until advised by a doctor.

If you experience any of the following serious side effects from warfarin, stop taking the medication and seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor immediately:
an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing; closing of the throat; swelling of the lips, tongue, or face; or hives);
black, bloody, or tarry stools;
blood in urine or vomit;
coughing up blood;
bleeding gums or sores in the mouth;
decreased urine production;
yellowing of the skin or eyes;
severe dizziness or headache;
easy bleeding or bruising under the skin;
purple discoloration of the toes or fingers;
sudden leg or foot pain; or
unusually heavy menstrual periods.
Other, less serious side effects may be more likely to occur. Talk to your doctor if you experience
excessive gas or bloating;
diarrhea, nausea, or vomiting;
hair loss; or
decreased appetite or weight.
Side effects other than those listed here may also occur. Talk to your doctor about any side effect that seems unusual or that is especially bothersome.

Warfarin side effects
Get emergency medical help if you have signs of an allergic reaction: hives; difficult breathing; swelling of your face, lips, tongue, or throat.
Warfarin may cause you to bleed more easily, which can be severe or life-threatening. Seek emergency medical attention if you have any unusual bleeding, or bleeding that will not stop. You may also have bleeding on the inside of your body, such as in your stomach or intestines. Call your doctor at once if you have blood in your urine, black or bloody stools, or if you cough up blood or vomit that looks like coffee grounds.
Also call your doctor at once if you have:
- pain, swelling, hot or cold feeling, skin changes, or discoloration anywhere on your body;
- sudden and severe leg or foot pain, foot ulcer, purple toes or fingers;
- sudden headache, dizziness, or weakness;
- easy bruising or bleeding (nosebleeds, bleeding gums), purple or red pinpoint spots under your skin;
- bleeding from wounds or needle injections that will not stop;
- pale skin, feeling light-headed or short of breath, rapid heart rate, trouble concentrating;
- dark urine, jaundice (yellowing of the skin or eyes);
- little or no urinating;
- numbness or muscle weakness; or
- pain in your stomach, back, or sides.
Common side effects may include:
- nausea, vomiting, mild stomach pain;
- bloating, gas; or
- altered sense of taste.
This is not a complete list of side effects and others may occur. Call your doctor for medical advice about side effects. You may report side effects to FDA at 1-800-FDA-1088.

Hi hun, sorry you are having such a rough time on your new SSRI some people don't do as well as others on these drugs, I myself suffer from panic disorder and anxiety problems and have tried many different SSRI's and as the same with you I had the BAD side effects. Though MOST of them stop after 2-4 weeks it is really up to you if you want to stay on it or not Always talk to your doctor whatever you choose to do they are the ones that know you best! My path lead me down a Natural Healing way herbs,oils,message therapy,acupuncture, therapy , and even starting my own local meet up support group for people like me. I PERSONAL think all SSRI's suck , but again that is me some people find life in the again my thoughts on it all is this As with all medication if it is hard to go ON it - it is 100x's HARDER to come off of it-- Think about this before you commit to something because are you willing to take something for the rest of your life? Or would you rather wake up feel blah but knowing you can control you with some breathing, some meditation, a little yoga, good food and the right support people.. Again this is all up to you that's what yahoo-answers is for to see every ones point of view this is mine again not a doc here so talk to yours but Over all everyone feels some effects from starting a SSRI such as Paxil cause you are messing with the chemical make up of your serotonin levels in your brain!

However, Warfrin is important medication, must have the reason you are on this medication.
