I think thats more than enough. Just remember, the more you buy every year, the older he gets and sees that he gets a lot each year, the more he'll expect as he gets older and it can get to a point in your life when you cant afford all these things and then you'll have a problem. Im not saying that there will be a time when you cant buy a lot for him, but you never know what could happen in life.

It depends on what they are. My daughter loved opening presents and really couldnt care less what it was so until she was about 6 or 7 I shopped at the dollar store for her Xmas gifts. Colouring in books...pencils...play dough...stickers...little things that she could play with later. She had lots of fun unwrapping them all on Xmas morning and it didnt cost much to buy her a lot of presents. If they are expensive items then 13 is way too many for a 4 year old. Beware of setting a trend you wont be able to keep up with when he is 10 and up.

I guess I would not be a very good one to ask this question, I have a 14 yr old a 13yr old and a 2yr old. All 3 have 3 foot stocking just stuffed and over flowing and we have gotten each of them 30 gifts! I know it's bad but they are the only 3 I'm ever going to have and they are going to have everything that my fiance and I didnt have growing up. So to answer your question...you can never get to much! LOL!! Enjoy your son and holiday.

Wow. Perhaps you are being too generous. If you go overboard on gifts, then he will not appreciate the them. He is only 4. Not only will he loose interest quickly, they won't last long. Besides, if you are getting him that many at 4 years of age, than each year he's older and his list will grow and become more expensive because he knows he's going to get it.(whether from you or from Santa.) Lastly, teach him the true meaning of Christmas. It's not all about how much is spent on him or how full his toy box is.

Seems he will be very exhausted from opening too many gifts. I also have a toddler and he gets at the most 4 gifts under the tree and what ever the grandparents bring over~

We work the 'trinity' idea.
Jesus got 3 gifts, what makes you better than Christ?
It's a religious holiday for us. I do realize that many people who don't believe in Christ celebrate, and I'm good with that. From a parent point of view, you're gonna create a greedy little child, who will never be happy.

Stop, stop! Small children lose their ability to focus on gifts after 3 or 4. They may feel overwhelmed and start having breakdowns.
At least pace yourself in giving them to him. Give him a few at a time and then give him a break or he won't be able to cope and certainly won't be able to appreciate your generosity.

Whatever you can afford to give him or less. I go overboard for my kids but they don't get just toys, they also get educational things and some clothes. Sometimes there are things that I would be buying for them anyway but since it is near Chrismas it gets wrapped and put under the tree. Basically - I just like wrapping things and watching them unwrap them.

I think that's good for him.... it might be too much for him to open at once just cause he'll open a few things and find something that he likes and he'll want to play with that toy and won;'t care about the rest.
