In half a century from now, do you beleive that your discrimination against gays will be MORE or LESS of an embarassment to your grandchildren than the embarassment you experienced by the discrimination of blacks by your grandparents??

Just wondering....

My grandchildren are not embarrassed of their parents and grandparents concerning gay & lesbians, because we do not teach them to discriminate. We were not taught to discriminate against blacks or any race for any reason either.

Human beings have been blaming God for their inhumanities to man since the dawn of time. Regardless of man's attitudes toward same gender oriented people God has protected them, and kept love and hope alive.

Gay & Lesbians have been persecuted by society because they are different than the majority.

Jesus was different. He was a Jew, but He came to unite a divided people. He was different than the "majority" and as they did to Him, society has done to other peoples. Those societies suffer more from their hate than they could ever suffer the sin of love between two people.

Not all gay & lesbians are in loving unions, but neither are heterosexuals. Today our children are growing up in a country where sex in it's most innocent form could kill them. STD's number over 250.

Our grandchildren & their children are inheriting more than the discrimination towards gay & lesbians. American children in their cribs face a deficit beyond the imagination of a college professor. Disease and greed are crippling a country that used to be independent.

Gay & lesbians face unfair, cruel and even inhuman treatment in a modern supposed to be civilization. But our children face many more facets of mans inhumanity to man!

Well as usual, another uneducated remark. I'm christian and I don't discriminate against gays. I know some and we're friendly to one another. They know where I stand on the issue and I know where they stand and we respect that. As far as blacks, I live in the south with blacks as my neighbors and so did my grandparents and we have always got along fine and worked together and even go to church together. I'm not left embarrassed about anything but then again you probably didn't really mean "Every" christian did you?

As a black, I will say that the Bible speaks on all, and sin is sin--we will all be ashamed and no it will not be any better until the world ends, we justify all that we do, including myself in some areas, but I pray for strength to get better. Sleeping around, stealing, lying, sins against son and father mother daughter--and men sleeping with men, or women with women, it talks about it all---WE all come short of the Glory of God, but we can all do what is right if we WANT TOO--I will pay for my sins and you yours, and anyone else---my grandchildren I pray will live by the word of GOD--and NOT by what I have done, I do not wish my mistakes on my children, or grandchildren and I have a LOT of them--I am not a fortune teller I do not know what will happen, I only pray that God will direct them. I do not believe that same sexes sleep together because of genetics, but by choice, just as I have laid down with a man--it is still sin--there is NO right about it

there should not be any embarrassments and christians do not discriminate against homosexuals. Homosexuality is a sin. just like murder, rape, etc. In half a century from now all these things will still be a sin.But we should still love the sinners, because no one is perfect. However, if my grandparents discriminated agaist the blacks, then I am not embarrassed but outraged. Discrimination is a sin.

How is your stereotyping of Christians any different than the discrimination that some Chrisitans enact? Not all Christians discriminate against gays. Some Christians are gay themselves. I hope you don't always buy into everything popular media feeds you.

While I personally believe that there should be more compassion, and less anger/violence/hatred/etc, towards gays, the fact of the matter is that it's always been viewed as abnormal behavior. Yes, I do understand that it's a "born as" and not a "decision". But, the majority always views minority activites as "abnormal" (since the activity is not "normal" or "majority").

Embarassment? Probably not.

And, instead of targeting Christians...why not look at the hard core opposition? Or, don't you think there'll be ANY change in islam's view of homosexuality in 50 years or so?

There is nothing sinful about being black, however the practice of homosexuality is sinful. Never have I being a Christian discriminated against a person because they are black or any other color nor do I discriminate against a person because they are gay. To disagree with a persons choices is not discrimination.
Next time you wonder try thinking at the same time.

The discrimination of blacks was not based on any biblical texts and so is very different than the current Christian stance on homosexuality.

It is apparant that many believe that we (Christians) are stupid, ignorant, or even mentally ill. Despite this, we do believe in a God and that He has given us scriptures that tell us certain things which are indisputable. The interpretation of the scriptures themselves are certainly open to dispute but the nature of the Bible is that certain of its teachings are not open for debate.

Having said that, I would like to say that I believe that God created the world and mankind. Of course I realize how foolish this seems to many of you, so you don't need to point it out. I also believe that God designed His creation to teach us things about Himself and His nature. Part of that is how we humans relate to each other. My opinion is that He intended for the male/female relationship through marriage to show us things about who He is. That is why it is so offensive to Him for people to have same-sex relations. It is in complete opposition to His plan for humanity. To those who are homosexual, this seems like hatred on our part. I am truly sorry about that but in truth I do not hate you. Again, I can see how this is difficult to understand. I do not condone any abuse of homosexuals by Christians. Homosexuals should not be abused verbally or physically or deprived of anything simply because they are gay.

So, the treatment of blacks by our ancestors, who called themselves Christians, was wrong and cannot be justified by the scriptures. As for today, I personally do not support all of the efforts of right-wing Christians to prevent homosexuals from receiving the same rights given to married heterosexuals.

Instead it is my belief that Christ modelled a certain ideal while here on earth and that if all Christians would mirror that example, then the world would be an entirely different place without the need for right-wing, fundamentalist Christians lobbying Capitol Hill.

I don't know which Christians you are talking about, but not everyone discriminates against gays. Don't generalize. For some reason if Christians "generalize" about other groups it's horrible and gets smeared all over the place, but the same groups "generalize" about Christians and think it's okay. Hmm...maybe people shouldn't be a hypocritical.

No embarrassment, and your two examples are not comparable. What type of discrimination do you mean anyway? I don't believe in violence or denying of rights, but some people feel discriminated against just because people won't accept and approve of their lifestyle. Homosexuality is an abomination to God, and it is not our place to judge these people. But they don't have the right to make us say it isn't wrong either.
