I think you are referring to paintings by Peter Paul Rubens. His style is why larger women today are sometimes called "Rubenesque"

Rubenesque women were shown in the original "the Firm" videos when they started. (that's a home fitness enterprise) does anyone remember that? I guess to get us to think of how we don't want to look.
It must be Ruben, he is the only one that comes to mind when thinking of paintings of fat women.
