i've been looking for a free mac audio ripper for months for my video editing project and I can't find one. I want one that can remove the protection from a music file. I am not looking for a recorder because the sound quality is bad. Please help thanks.

I'm not very good with slang terms but I think "rip" means to copy a disk. Am I right? Use iTunes to do that. You can click on the "Help" menu and it should have some "Quick Start" topics. One of those is "How do I copy an audio CD?" or some such wording.

Now, if you actually want to mix sounds, use iMovie if you have it (comes free with some Macs but not all Macs). You can drag each audio import in iMovie and overlap them, fade them. Use the iMovie Help guide to see step by step. Then choose to "Save to QuickTime" and open the movie file in QuickTime Player. It has an option to "Export" and that will make an AIF file of the audio track. If you don't have iMovie, download Audicorder or Audiophile from www.versiontracker.com
