Some DVD players play Video CD format (it has a unique directory structure etc.).

Some will not.

Some will pay WMV and MPEG files, if you copy them as data files.

Check specs. on each player to check that.

Depends, some DVD players can some cant, theres no specifications for it, you just have to try different ones. A cyberhome DVD player can play them though.

Yep. Burn it as either a VCD or an ISO, and then a VCD. VCD means video compact disc, as opposed to a video disc [dvd]. :)

if you burn it as a vcd, it should. i'm not sure if it's true for all dvd players, but mine can play vcds.
