I definately wouldn't do it anymore than that, especially if you're using pure bleach. I think what you do is fine, maybe even less than that. Maybe only once every few months. Hair doesn't grow that quickly.

How often you touch up your roots is your own personal decision. If you think it doesn't look too bad then you don't have to do it very often. If you really can't stand the sight of your roots, then I recommend you do it around every three weeks. I probably wouldn't recommend leaving them for more than six weeks. I doubt it would dry your hair out much, as it is only the roots you're dyeing (if you're careful). The 'Root Touch-up' product by Clairol is very good, and allows you to cover the roots in as little as ten minutes.

Depending on how fast your hair grows... Use a deep conditioner once a week & leave it on your hair overnight. This will help you hair from the damage you are doing to it & you have less breakage. DO NOT use hot oil treatments on bleached hair.

You should only be re-touching every six weeks. Any more than that, and you could really kill your hair and/or scalp.
