I'm 27...I just left my boyfriend of 3 years. We had been living together, but he used me. It took me a while to see it, but I finally left because he wouldn't or couldn't understand me. After I left, he called me in tears because he hadn't realized that he had been hurting me. I told him that I would consider reconciling if he could show me that he was getting himself out of debt, and that he was repairing his relationships with the people he had used for money. He and I were doing great long distance, and he even proposed one night. I agreed, but it didn't feel right, because of the circumstances in which it happened. Almost like he proposed to keep me, even though it sounded sincere. I was torn between him and my family, so I went to see a councelor. The councelor told me that it sounded like he had a dating style of someone in middle school and he was immature. I haven't talked to him since. How should I continue? Should I keep no contact? ( I broke off the engagement)

Take a break and listen to tons of Diva music (Cher, Beyonce, Mariah Carey, Dolly Parton) and then call him in about 3 or 4 months just to see how he is doing, but don't expect much from him. And don't expect him to change beyond things on the surface.
Good Luck.

i think your initial feelings are appropriate, ie: seeing if he will get out of debt and if he will repair the relationships with the others he used for money.

people do change... its hard work, but breaking up with him could be a wake up call.

just follow your heart, and be true to your heart.

He hurt you.
There are too many guys out there that will treat you right the first time for you to go backwards and give someone a second chance.

Don't talk to him, just change your phone number and forget, he did rotten stuff to you, and I'm surprised that you accepted the engagement. At least you broke it off though!!!
Good Luck!! Hang in there!! :)

If you love him then you should try to help him out but if it comes down to him using you again you need to tell him you are through and leave.

Life is short, move on....the only person you have to please is the one that looks back at you from the mirror.
