ideas? Remember the Protestant movement is normally called a reformation yet you cannot reform a thing by leaving a thing.
More accurately to Protest is not to reform per se but to revolt, to rebel.
What the Catholic Church wanted and still prays for today is for Christianity to once again be one in unity. Protestantism was and is heresy. In time some Protestants have come to understand this and return to the original authoritative Catholic Church. It was take more time for the rest to see.
Once again what ideas are you talking about?

No one likes competition.
A friend of mine knew the woman who owned this software company and one day at a computer conference Bill Gates said to her, you better sell me your company before I put you out of business.
That's a true story! If there was NO such thing as the Protestant Religion the EU might be filing Monopoly charges against the Vatican today.

People would be leaving their church, less bodies, less money...less control.
Not to mention the Protestants wanted to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ (Holy Bible). As there are no other Holy books. Perhaps the Protestants wanted to get away from idol worship (praying to statues of Saints.) etc...
There are many reasons...
Here's the truth...it doesn't matter what your denomination is or isn't...only those people with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will enter into Heaven.

Because what Luther proposed was blasphemous to the church at the time. No confessional! No transubstantiation. Giving people more direct access to "God."
It's like how "the church" (Baptists included) act when someone mentions including gays or women in leadership roles. "Blasphemous!"
In general, conservatives hate change. And it's hard to find a denser wad of conservatives than it is at one of My churches!
