What you have heard is a historical truth. Please read the famous historian Edward Gibbon and his most famous book 'Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire'. There is vivid narration of wars and battles directly participated by Muhammad himself and how he used to treat the prisoners of War. After massacre of those unarmed soldiers how was he treating the women and children of the dead Jews and Christians; and idol worshipers in Arabian peninsula have been dealt with by the historian Gibbon.
Muhammad was a terror and most merciless. It is not understood how the Muslims portray him as grace and mercy personified.

Yes! The initial spread of Islam was achieved by conquering warriors who killed many who would not convert. See "Great Heresies" by Hillaire Belloc for more details.

Read his life story. You will learn about all the camel trains he raided with his followers. You will learn about all the looting and killing. You will read about the 900 men from a Jewish clan that were beheaded and thrown into a ditch, and how their wives and children were sold into slavery, and much much more. Please don't take my word for it, or the word of anyone else on yahoo. Just read it for yourself.

Not true. The total number killed of both sides in over twenty years didn't exceed 400 and this is well documented.
See how he was treating people of other faiths at this link:

i did not know that ,but it's hardly surprising considering the FACT that some of his followers do the same thing today and by all accounts most of his followers go along with it.
