I have a 4 ft by 5 ft canvas picture over my fireplace hung like this now.
Put screws in the top back corners of the
picture. Leave about 1 inch stuck out. The screws will rest on the bricks. You can move it up and down one brick at a time wherever you need it.

Just put some up myself i was told to use small masonary nails these hold to the wall better

You should use a masonry drill bit that is smaller than the screw (not a nail!) that you will use to hang. It's quite simple really.
