Don't forget to remove router. After that it's up to him. You have tried but ultimately, if he cannot see that that is not a path to a decent career then enough is enough. No-one wants to see their kids fail but you stressing yourself about HIS future will just drive you nuts. Take a deep breath and leave him to it. Concentrate on the other kids, he will have to learn the hard way. It's called tough love.

you have a couple of options. 1) Act like you dont care and let him play on that all day and when you recieve a letter or telephone call from the college inform them of the reason. 2)take away the router or delete the game. 3) put a password on the system so only you can enter it. 4) limit his time on the computer and make sure he sticks to it. My parents got a programme where you could give access to the children during certian times of day and we had to login each time when the time was up the system automatically saved what everything we were doing and logged us out. Some times what you need to do is just put up with it and if he sees thay he is not annoying you with it anymore he might start doing as you ask, but with him being 16 this might not work either.

Ban him from the computer. If you're running Windows XP, create user accounts and passwords for all users of the computer. When he is banned from the computer, set his password to something he doesn't know.

In the end you do not solve the problem by using a bandaid. After all, it's not the computer that has the problem, it's the boy. If it were my son he'd get a swift smack across the back of the head, and a stern, "Take care of your responsibilities first, then play!"

Just tell him once that it's important he does his college work before he goes on the computer. If he wants to be treated like an adult he had better act like one. He should no longer need nagging. If he simply won't do it and won't take any notice, just leave him, but tell him in a few years when he's f**ked his head up, not got a job, you've chucked him out of the house and he's got no chance of a decent life, simply tell him that he's then going to be paying later for what he did before and it'll nobody's fault but his own. If he won't listen to that then he's a shed head and a lost cause and you should simply throw him out before he becomes a burden both emotionally and financially, as nothing good will come of him if he won't help himself.

A 16 year old doing college work must be pretty smart. I would try to bargain with him. Offer him 50/50. He can spend an hour on the game for every hour he completes his college work. You must verify that the work is getting finished but then you may allow him his harmless diversion without guilt or anger.

Try to remove the game from his computer and punish him really really hard by either taking the computer case from his room for three or four days and try to give him a serious but not too serious or philosophical conversation and try to make him understand that life is not about playing alone but also about hard work and knowing how to manage.

Take away a Christmas present every time you catch playing when he is not supposed to. He should pick out which present to be taken away, then give it to one of his siblings or other family member and let him watch that person open the gift.

I did this with my daughter last year and it worked! She did not like seeing her presents go to someone else.

Get rid of the game or the game console.
Or you could take charge as a parent & sort the spoiled little brat out.
