I don't have Microsoft Publisher - all I have is Word and PowerPoint. What should I use to create a double sideded leaflet which folds into 6 different segments on the leaflet if you know what I mean?

I would use Word for this since you don't have Publisher, Word has in it a function that will allow you to divide text into several columns and you can import graphics into your document and simply do it on two pages but have it printed as a double sided document. Hope this helps.

download a version of publisher off limewire.com

but the better design program would be quark or indesign (industry standard for print design)
