looking more for historical stuff but beaches and beer are good too! anywhere between quito, portoviejo, and manta

Manabi, the province where Manta and Portoviejo are located has beautiful beaches. Going South you have Puerto Lopez and Los Frailes (one of the most beautiful beaches in Ecuador). You can go to Isla de la Plata from Puerto Lopez to do snorkling and whale-watching (from June to August). Going more South you get to Montanita, probably the surfing capital of Ecuador (not neccesarily for having the best waves but for being a great place to party).
