My soon to be husband and I would like to have kids soon and I've thought about babysitting so I can stay at home with the baby. The problem with this is that I breed cats so I have about 10 cats at my house. Would the parents worry about all of the cats and not want me to babysit their child(ren)? I'm just curious of parents' views and opinions on this.

Thank You!

My house is very clean and you can't really tell that I have that many cats. Two rooms in the house are the cat rooms, One for the boy and one for the other cats to run when they get scared. They usually hang out in there. I breed Maine Coons which are one of the most gentle cats you can get and I wouldn't have them all out when I was babysitting, most of them would be in the rooms.

My cats are not allowed on the counters and they are strictly indoor, their litter boxes are in their room.

You might have licensing issues if you're planning on becoming a daycare provider. If you're just babysitting, I still think a lot of parents might be taken aback by so many cats. I love cats, but it's unnerving enough to leave your child with a stranger, I might think so many animals would take up too much of your time and/or be a risk to my child. Curious little ones can get scratched or bitten! There is also the cleanliness factor. These are all just my thoughts of what objections people might have, I don't mean to say you've got mean cats and a smelly house!

Is there any way you can divide your home so there is a "cat-free" area for the babysitting/daycare portion?

I know I would not put my infant in a daycare that had cats (1 maybe, 10 def. not). I feel that it would be unsanitary. I am sure they get on the counters and all over the furniture. Plus if any of cats go outside and you had a sand box they would use that as a litter box and then the kids would play in it. No way.

hey, first off if your going to get pregnant than your hubby is going to have to the kitty litter there is some parasite or bacteria in cat feces that is very dangerous for pregnant woman ask your gyne or ob doc they will explain it to you as a parent i would not even consider leaving my kids with that many animals unless it was a completely separate from the house and even than it would be hard kids can develop allergies if they don't already have them from so much animal dander and i wouldn't want to leave them in their because the smell (even if you clean everyday cats litter boxes stink) you could always work at a home daycare center and be with your baby at the same time might want to consider that option. my son who is eight can't even sit next to kids that have cats because he is so extremely allergic

I would consider it twice before I sent my daughter your way. We have a dog and a cat of our own but that many cats would make me nervous---and the fact that they are breeding might make them more edgy. I'd be afraid of scratches or bites, and I would also worry about the cleanliness. Not saying anything about you, please don't be offended----I'm just thinking about cat hair around. If I was assured the cats had the basement and the kids didn't have much contact with them, I wouldn't have a problem.

My mom owns a daycare and she had it in our home for 3 years. We had a dog and parents seen it and didn't take any interest in how clean the house is or anything like that. In plus, when you have to have the childcare inspector to come out, they wont allow animals in the home period!!! Cats are not too good with infants either. They can cause serious brething problems. Trust me...I had to take tons of childcare classes to just work at my mom's daycare for just the summer.

Email me if you have any questions on how to get started. I have plenty of answers!!!

I would be afraid of allergies or of the cats scratching the little ones. But if you have a big room that can be devoted to daycare area I don't see why it would be a problem.

I think it would be a turn-off, unless you are sitting for someone you already know who is familiar with all of your cats. I worry about my child being around other people's pets.

Well I have 5 and I have a lot of friends who get allergies when they come over so they don't visit much. So I would think that parents would have problems with it... sorry!!!

I would especially if my child is allergic to cats. All that pet dander, children can develop allergies.
