I have to agree that there is no "best" martial arts. Its not like my eagle claw can take your snake fist thing.

But just for thought, there was a discovery channel special on this where they measureed certain blows. The strongest punch came from your ordinary western boxing. The strongest kick is a knee from Muay Thai.

Hmmm... they should have measured the punch of Karate's Mas Oyama. He can kill a bull with his punch.

I'd say whatever you do. Depends on you and your instructors. I'm a smaller guy, so i chose a striking style (tang soo do).

Same time, if a big guy manages to get me on the ground. I'm probably screwed. Tang soo do does cover how to get out of some situations where you are on the ground, but again it still comes down to how good you are.

Also, people say jeet kune do, but i feel like most martial arts teach what its principles are.

In tang soo do, the offical moves dealing with punches are straight punches.........but then in sparring, the instructor will throw hooks or uppercuts.

This is a hard question. Honestly it depends on your body type. Certain martial arts were made for people with certain body types. So a big guy can be really good at boxing or wrestling but lack in kicking (kickboxing, TKD, etc). People say Brazilian is the best, but what if you lack the ideal body type for it? Honestly I think it depends on what benefits your body type.

Hope this helps.

You might want to read some Q&A on this board. There is virtually the same question just a few lines down. This is what I said there:

Once & for all, there is NO BEST art. There are many good arts, each with it'd strong & weak points. It's the artist, not the art.

Why do people continue to ask this question? At least you are asking which martial arts is the most powerful. I would have to say boxing, tae kwon do and karate all have very powerful strikes and kicks. According to Fight Science, a tv special on National Geographic, boxing had the most powerful punch, muai thai had the most powerful knee strike and tkd and karate and the most powerful kick (side kick).

There are no best arts, only best artists. The quality and frequency of your training will far outweigh the style you train in.

Brazilian Gracie Jiu-Jitsu is supposed to work for people of any body size or strength against any other type of martial art.

I noticed that many Jiu-Jitsu practitioners also take some type of kickboxing to round out their skill set, however.
