The Catholic Credo: "If it feels good, STOP."

2006-12-12 05:30:07 · answer #1 · answered by Anonymous · 4 3

Absolutely not.

Big misconception about Christians is that we are not Happy!

One that I had before becoming a Christian, it was wrong, we are happy!

I am much happier now as a Catholic than I ever was when hanging at the bars, getting wasted every night!

I can still enjoy everything in moderation!

I don't look at my life as a quest to force everyone into my beliefs, but I do think I should try to live a good example as much as possible and I will speak up when people say things about me or my faith that are false. If that brings anyone to Christianity, that is up to them and the Holy Spirit working within them.

You cannot force anyone to have faith.

Peace!

Depends how you define happiness. Is happiness all the sex drugs and obsessive attractions that make people feel good without substance? Is it more about how we define really good.

I saw some fundamentalists having a blast at some church function but I wouldn't have had as much fun there myself. Your issue is as judgemental as those christians are and your fear is twice as bad in some ways.

I have had fun in many non christian ways but I am not so judgemental to say they are wrong either in thier ways.

You want to be left alone and guess what they do too. I wish I could be happy with dogmatic belief but I realize it is all inside and being happy with who you are I guess.

Maybe if we all just tried to be more open minded on both sides and not so hateful we could reach equilibrium and be happy in our own ways. Maybe God made America for that didn't he or whatever. Maybe we are like a big experiment in human thought and action.

There are three marks that he sets forth in this letter for these Christians and for us. First he says, "Be holy." Now what do you think when you hear that word holy? Do you think of someone who has been stewed in vinegar? Sour? So pious that he is always mouthing pious sayings and talking about religious things? Is this what holiness means to you? Well, obviously you have missed the whole meaning of it if that is what you think.

Do you know how the Old Testament refers to holiness? It calls it "the beauty of holiness." And there is something beautiful about a holy person because holiness means "wholeness." This is a real person. To me the ingredients of wholeness are basically first, singlemindedness. He is a person who has his eye on a goal. on a person whom he follows, and that person is so thoroughly all-important to him that he is not interested in anything that does not relate to that person. That is singleminded, dedicated. There is something attractive about that. Any time you meet a Marine who takes pride in his outfit you can see the kind of singlemindedness I am talking about. He is proud that he is a Marine, and he walks like it and he talks like it.

Now there is that same quality about a Christian who understands his Lord. He is holy, in the sense that he is dedicated. And then he is at peace with himself. He is not struggling with anyone, or certainly not within himself. He is at rest. He is adjusted. He does not get upset when everything around him starts crumbling apart. That is what holiness is.

All religions are the fanatical obsession with ending "worldly happiness".

Sometimes. If someone is happy with a completely different way of thinking, then there is a chance that you might be wrong. Ya gotta nip that in the bud.

Edit:

"NO! No no no, stop saying you're happy! I know that deep down you're not. I can tell by looking at you. Jesus Christ is your savior!!!!"

No.
Like many religions, it was intended to be used on the unsophisticated masses to control them by psychological means (fear, guilt, insults, etc). By telling everyone they are born sinners (bad people) that must obey or go to Hell, it was (and is) very effective for followers. We have law which can be enforced, so even if those people would do evil things without the threat of hell, we can keep them locked away from the rest of us.

No it is about having peace in abundance that is just humans saying that is what God wants. Don't look to people look to God as He wants your life full up and running over with joy and peace that surpasses understanding.

no. Christianity is God's means of communicating to man the reason for man's existence and the way to get right with God and go to Heaven instead of Hell.

some have perverted parts of Christianity, etc (or tried to), but God's message is pure and undiluted and still works for those who don't want to be firewood for all Eternity.

By the way, the only people who are really happy are Christians, and that's how it's always been.

From what I see it is those who don't know God who are the ones who are envious to the point of trying to stop even the mention of God in our society, in schools, public property, and even engravings, statues and monuments that have been around for hundreds of years.

Are you happy?
