when tradition and scripture contradict each other why do you side with a man made tradition over God's Word in scripture?
The pharisees of Jesus's days did this same thing

Paul said to' follow the traditions set forth',but the traditions were not the Roman Catholic traditions. Those came much later ,after the completion of scripture.
When Paul set up the church and the hierarchy,he meant them to be family people"The husband of one wife, and children under control. If you can't control your children ,how can you control a church?"
There is no mention of "Nuns".Only widows over 60 were to be allowed as wards of the church. He said any one younger should marry and raise a family or be taken care of by their family.
He also says "there is but one mediator between God and man,Christ Jesus".
This lets us know that priests and dead saints are not to be used as mediators. You can pray to God in the 'Name of Jesus',and be heard way before a dead guy.In fact Paul says that there should not be priests at all,but Pastors and Teachers,Decons and EldersJesus said "Call no man on Earth ,Father(excluding 'Dad')for there is one Father in heaven".
So,sorry Padre ,I'll have to call you Brother.
The Lord at the Last Supper broke matza bread for communion, they didn't eat the round "Queen of Heaven"wafer.
That's why Martin Luther was so insistent on Scriptures Only.

Actually Jesus chided the Pharisees for taking the Bible too literally.

Pharisees: Absolutely no work on the Sabbath
Jesus: It is okay to heal and forgive.

Pharisees: Stone adulterers to death.
Jesus: Forgive.

Pharisees: Only Jews can be our neighbors.
Jesus: Everyone are our neighbors even our enemies.

The Scriptures, by themselves, do not answer all our questions.

The Catholic Church does not use Holy Scripture as the only basis of doctrine. It could not. The early Catholic church existed before and during the time that the New Testament was written (by Catholics).

There were hundreds of Christian writings during the first and second centuries. Which New Testament writings would become official was not fully decided until about 400 AD.

Catholics believe that the Holy Spirit was guiding the early church (and is guiding the church today) to make the correct choices about things like:
+ The Holy Trinity (which is also only hinted at in the Bible)
+ Going to church on Sunday instead of Saturday (which is actually directly against one of the Ten Commandments)
+ The Communion of Saints
+ Which writings include in the New Testament?

Things that are even more modern like
+ Slavery is bad. Slavery is never declared evil in the Bible. This was one of the justifications for slavery in the Confederate States.
+ Democracy is good. The Bible states that either God should be the leader of the nation like Israel before the kings or kings should be the leader, "Give to Caesar that which is Caesar's." This was talked about a lot during the American Revolution.

This second source of doctrine is called Apostolic Tradition.

With love in Christ.

you have a typical fake effect of what the Church teaches touching directly to the Scriptures, or perhaps the source of the Bible as all of us are conscious of it right this moment. here, in a nutshell, is a few ideas to show you how to. The Church teaches that the Bible is the stimulated, infallible be conscious of God (leaving aside for now the undeniable fact that Jesus is the be conscious of God, this is a diverse theological theory than the single you're pursuing). The Church won't be able to alter the Scriptures or what they instruct. even though if, this is the authoritative interpreter of those Scriptures, and that authority replaced into given via Christ himself. As for the actual incontrovertible fact that "most of the books of the Bible have been written till now the Catholic Church existed," it is misguided. The Church replaced into universal at Pentecost, while the Spirit got here, which Christ had promised. the guy "books" have been written interior the context of the Church. till now the business enterprise of the Canon of Scripture, there have been many writings utilized via early Christians seen to be authoritative. The Church, decrease than the coaching of the Holy Spirit, examined those writings, and accrued them mutually basically so all Christians might have the organic actuality from which to be taught and stay. those books not stimulated have been excluded. So, definite. The Church believes and teaches that the Bible is composed of the be conscious of God, that what it is composed of is stimulated actuality, and that it fairly is to not get replaced. It does desire analyzing and keeping, and that's the function of the Church. you're able to do extra examine on how the Canon replaced into stepped forward, and what the Church teaches very actual. attempt finding on the Catechism as a start up.

Show me one place where the Pope's speaking, Ex Cathedra, has contradicted the Bible. When you do that, your question will have meaning. Otherwise, it's like saying "If Psalms contradicts Proverbs, which do I listen to".

Not all of Cathoic tradition is considered on par with the Bible. Not every word of the Pope is considered equal to the words of the Bible.

Obviously, you don't know much about Catholic tradition.

Apostolic Tradition and Scripture cannot conflict, because they are both the Word of God. Jesus gave us ALL of His teaching in the form of oral Tradition. The Apostles passed that teaching on primarily in the form of oral preaching and teaching. This teaching was the Word of God, even though none of it had yet been written down, because it came from the lips of God Himself in the person of Jesus Christ. Later, the apostles mentioned some of this teaching in their correspondence, usually in response to some difficulty being experienced by a local church. They also wrote down some of this teaching in the form of gospels. But their writing it down did not make it the Word of God. It was already the Word of God before a word of it was written. Likewise, any beliefs of the early Church that did not get written down were still the Word of God, because they came from the same source. The Church has always placed equal importance on the full Word of God, written and unwritten. Jesus never told anyone to write anything down. He did tell His Church to go forth and preach the Word of God. The Catholic Church has been doing so for 2,000 years, in spirit and in truth, without fragmenting into thousands of conflicting denominations that cannot agree on what constitutes truth. If you want to find conflict in teaching and manmade tradition, look to Protestantism, and you will find it rampant. There is no such conflict in the Church Christ founded for all mankind, the Catholic Church. There cannot be, for Christ Himself guaranteed that the Holy Spirit would guide His Church to all truth. Truth cannot conflict with truth. Apostolic Tradition that got written down - Scripture - cannot conflict with Apostolic Tradition that didn't get written down. To make such a claim makes the apostles, not God, the source of the Word of God.

Please....you must define "Catholic", as I am 100% Catholic, but I am not "Roman" Catholic.

My answer, as an Anglo-Catholic (as in the Oxford Fathers) is simple....our faith is based on three co-equal cornerstones - Scripture (first) - Holy Tradition (as governed by Scripture) and Holy Reason (as governed by the other two).

Bl. Richard Hooker defined this "trinity' in his Booke: "The Lawes of Ecclesiastical Polity".

Scripture first, as seen through Tradition's eyes, but not discounting my own God-given Reason.

Scripture can be nothing but a written version of tradition.

What tradition is contrary to the Scipture?

The TRADITION was first, then the Bible. So by your illogical thinking then those poor souls who did not have a Bible prior to it being promulgated didn't have the opportunity of salvation, correct?
