I have a 7 month old 8.6 lb. Yorkie/Chihuahua mix. I need to find a way to keep her from eating cloth items. I bought her a blanket and she's eaten holes in it. I bought her a pet bed and she started in on eating that last night. I don't mean chewing and shredding, but actually eating material. I don't buy her soft toys because she chews them all in a matter of minutes.

She has 2 kongs and lots of other chew toys. However, she still insists on chewing and eating cloth items.

Andy: She did do that with the tennis balls except she ate it instead of leaving traces on the carpet.

My pit does that. We give him lots of soft toys to satisfy that need so he doesn't chew up his bed. If he doesn't have the toys he will shred the couch the bed anything soft and fluffy. If your dog is actually ingesting it I wouldn't reccomend doing that. You will kill your dog. You just have to put some nasty tasting stuff on it to detour him.

Look for the "BOODA" line of pet toys. The have ropes and knots that are perfect for teething puppies and obsessive chewers. Now you may still have to train her from chewing other items by taking away the blanket and substituting the toy.
When you take away the blanket, just ignore her til you give her the knot, then praise her for chewing on the knot. It won't change overnite, but she will get the idea.
I had a toy poodle that would "de-fuzz" tennis balls. Try cleaning neon yellow lint out of the carpet!

Our dog would also try to eat material when she was younger. As well as carpet. Along with chewing on tv wires and computer cables. We bought some stuff from Theisen's *a farm and home supply store* called Bitter Apple...came in a spray bottle. It didn't stop her from chewing, so we tried this other spray for that. The other stuff stopped her from chewing on things. You could try finding some spray like that, that tastes bitter/bad to your dog, and spraying her bed and anything else cloth/material that she is or may chew on. As well as getting her some non-cloth toys to chew on. We buy the rope knotted toys and anything rubber. My husband suggested that you try putting some vinegar and dill in a spray bottle and spraying the cloth things that she's chewing up.

get your Yorkie an appropriate sized Kong toy. She won't be able to chew it up and it should stop her from chewing other items to some extent. Otherwise I think you need a good dog training course.

Puppies eat things. Your dog maybe teething try giving her hard things to chew on and take away her bed, I know it sounds mean but I know of someone who's dog ate the boarder around it's bed and had to have surgery to remove it from the intestines.

Have you ever heard of that useful spray 'Bitter Apple"? It tastes horrible to dogs, so if you spray everything you dont want her to chew, it'l stop. You can just use it untill she stops the habit alltogether. also, if she kills those toys so quickly, try whole frozen carrots, cut off the leafy part. Good luck!

I heard that spraying those items that your puppy may chew with lemon or vinegar or hot pepper spray will discourage the chewing/eating.

Try getting your dog a Nylabone. It is very good for their teeth and my Rottweiler has had one for a little over a year now. She also had the chewing problem until I bought her one.
